highschool and college

last friday, i went back to my highschool alma mater to attend my brother's graduation. omigosh. it has been 8 years since the last time i've been here, wearing my own toga and accepting my own diploma.

it has been 8 years since i felt excited and curious and just a wee bit anxious about college. about transferring to a new school. about finally staying in metro manila. i didn't know what to expect. i had lots of questions. will by little brain be able to cope up with college education? i don't know a thing about freaking programming languages. more importantly, will i have any friends? i didn't know anyone. will i be able to fit in, with all these rich kids? tapos i'm a probinsyana pa!

turns out, i didn't need to fit in. in college, it's your business. in college, you do your own thing. i guess i got my "anti-social" personality here. don't get me wrong. i do have lotssss of friends (mostly from my org). i found the bestest/coolest/hippest/funnest/most diverse people in college. some of them are even my close friends until now :)

but there are times when i ate lunch alone. i studied alone. i shopped alone. i got hair treatments alone. i watched movies alone. and i LOVED it. back in highschool, if you ate alone during lunch, you're a loser. in college, no one really cares.

so yeah, college is my favorite student-life phase. i got to spend lots of time with my friends. but i also got to be with myself. i hope my brother would have a grand time too!

bandang pinoy

while at work today, i got bored with my current playlist, so i decided to play all the songs in my iPod so i could listen to my old songs.

i realized i miss the 90's to early 2000's kick-ass songs by pinoy bands (not just alternative ones). wala na bang mga bagong release na ganito? o hindi nalang ako nakakanood ng MTV?

Bakit Part 2 - Mayonnaise
Jeepney - Kala
Akin Ka Nalang - Itchyworms

happy women's health month!

apparently, march is women's health month, so SLF had this health & wellness program kick-off. there were booths with freebies, free consultations, free make-overs etc.

i got a couple of discount cards...

slippers...

a back-issue magazine...

a consultation and a starter kit from nestle...

and other stuff (tissue, notebooks, pens, etc.). i got free tests for my blood pressure and blood sugar as well (normal pa naman. haha!)

this one's my fave though. i registered to be able to get cervical cancer shots at a relatively low price. we were also allowed to register dependents who wanted to get shots and they get discounts as well. i've been thinking about getting shots before, kaya lang it's expensive, kaya ok na ok to :) tapos salary deduction pa :D

all things summer

since summer is my fave season (as if i'd have much to choose from), i made my own summer survey. try it too, it's fun :D

1. summer accessory
- sunglasses. kahit nga hindi summer e, i always wear them.

2. favorite beach
- boracay. palawan is really nice too, but it's too nature-y. i feel secluded. i want a beach with lots of people and shops and restaurants!

3. summer flavor
- ube

4. summer song/s
- "stolen" by dashboard confessional (i imagine long drives and sunsets when i hear this song). "let's just fall in love again" by jason castro too. and "swimming beach" by parokya ni edgar :)

5. summer movie
- 50 first dates. and charlie's angels 2 (i don't know why haha! pero mas summer sya for me kesa sa blue crush)

6. beat the heat treat
- mcdo coke float (yep, i prefer good old mcdonalds). razon's halo halo is a close 2nd choice.

7. summer sport
- wakeboarding. ok, i haven't tried this yet. i did kneeboarding before in camsur. chamba na kakatapos lang ng wakeboarding tournament when we visited, so madami pang professional wakeboarders dun. waaah ang gagaling! super wow! (chongs, remember pink shorts guy? ;)) HAHAHA!)

8.  summer tv ad
- nescafe. yung may jingle na "samalamig! samalamig!" na reggae. tapos may guy na naka dreads na nagtitimpla ng ice cold nescafe sa lalagyan ng gulaman.

9. beach or swimming pool?
- for lounging around, walking and taking photos, beach. for totoong swimming, pool. mainly because my skin reacts badly in salt water. tapos masakit pa sya sa mata. pero kung mag ssnorkling, game sa beach!

10. summer thingies i'd like to try
- parasailing, definitely. i want!!!

if. why. what.

i had this little thought when i passed by yupangco bldg. tonight. what would i be like if i opted to not have my 8-to-5 job? what if i decided to be all artsy and became a make-up artist, a designer, a writer or a musician?

i would be doing what i love to do. but i would still be looking for the "glitz and glamour" of the corporate world. is it possible to be corporate-y and still do lots of artsy stuff? maybe, but probably not. besides, a person can't have everything, right? you may be all rich and you love your job, but something will definitely be wrong. family matters, love life, health issues, whatever. something's bound to be amiss.

why is that? why can't people have everything and just be happy? here's what my tired little brain concluded -- you can't be happy if you haven't been miserable. if everything's perfect for you, you'd just feel normal. wala lang.

so what do you prefer? feel nothing? or be happy but go through sh*t first?

ala'y nakauwi rin!

(note: "ala'y" is how real batangueƱos pronounce "ala eh". pronouncing it as "ala eh" sounds fake.)

this sounds weird coming from me -- the city-loving, trying-to-be-independent little lady who wanted so much to live in the metropolis on her own. but yea, i sooo looked forward to going home to the province last sunday. (what?!) i think it has been 2 months since the last time i went home.

i miss our house. i miss sleeping in my little violet room. i miss my lovely baby blue and gold bathroom with shower heater (heheheaven!). i miss our kitchen. i miss our TV. i miss our very comfy couch. i miss our kitchen countertop. i miss my parents' and brother's rooms. but i think, i really miss THEM. (cheesy, i know. eww. haha!)

when my dad & i arrived home at 4am, i was touched to see my room spic-and-span. as in the curtains newly washed. the floor vacuumed. new bedsheet and blanket and pillow cases. ang sarap matulog! when i woke up, mom made us her new breakfast recipe (which i shall keep a secret for now since we might just launch it in sizzlers' blends eventually, wahoo!)

then my bro & my mom & i hung out at my brother's room. just making chika and catching up and laughing like crazy people. oh yea! my brother will be graduating from highschool this month. wahoo! his graduation will fall on a friday, and my dad was like "ate, ikaw muna sa sizzlers' ha." and i was starting to complain coz he's going to make me miss work. then my brother said "wala ka sa grad ko ate? wag nalang. dapat complete." and i was thinking... 'it's your brother's graduation and you're not freaking going? what are you thinking?' so ok. i'm going, i'm going! then he'll be living in QC in a couple of months. ngyaha! i think we're going to hang out more often. he's already telling me that he'll be staying in my place once in a while. actually, he wants to stay there on fridays. (and i go, "not every friday ha!" haha!) basta dapat may dala syang allowance. kung hindi yari ang sweldo ko haha! lagi pa naman yun humihirit ng starbucks and restaurants "na wala sa lipa". and i always give in. hayayay!

for the past few days, i haven't been all jolly and gay. some of my unfortunate friends (who i have ranted to. thank you for bearing with me, btw.) know that. so it feels good to just be with my family again. after weeks of fending for yourself, ang sarap pala na may nagluluto para sayo haha (lalo na pag nag-aral pa sa culinary school yung nagluto. o ha!)
