rollercoaster month

geez, this has been a crazy month. a lot of things are happening at lightning speed! but i like it :D it makes me feel more alive. let's break it down a bit more. this month, i've felt...

very very thankful... that my dear friend BJ is now in remission. the Lord is truly great. to family and friends, thank you for all your prayers and help.

ecstatic... that all the hours clocked in at the gym and efforts of controlling portions are finally starting to pay off. JUSKUPO!

revitalized... at the office (doesn't that sound weird? haha).

delighted... that my article was printed in our company publication. thank you for giving me the opportunity to write.

stressed and frustrated... which is surprisingly not work-related. (hay Lord, i am asking for your help again. i don't know how to do this.)

chillax... while listening to 106.7 Dream FM at work.

relieved... at nakaraos din sa BC tuitions. woohoo!

excited... for the start of mentorship :)

glad... that i met new friends.

cheery & child-like... after watching 2 good movies - Crazy Little Thing Called Love and Rio.

calm... before going to bed, after spritzing lavender linen spray on my bed & pillows.

looking forward... to a SUNNY SUMMER! i love the heat and the sun and the wind! and to a nice Holy Week with family and relatives.

HAVE A SUNNY AND WONDERFUL SUMMER EVERYONE!

Crazy Little Thing Called Love

the newest thing that my teammates & i have at the office = romantic thai movies. pauso kasi itong officemate ko eh hahah! the only thai movie that i was able to watch (although not entirely, since i just watched it on the bus) was ong bak (huge dose of muay thai YEAH!)

the first romance thai movie that i watched = Crazy Little Thing Called Love (aka First Love). ok, honestly, i initially watched the movie because p'shone (Mario Maurer) is so gwapo haha! fortunately, it was a really good movie. it was conservative (not PDA-ish at all), but it was still surprisingly sweet. i wouldn't say that the movie is really "romantic". i prefer to call it "heart-warming" :)

and i cried a lot. (how come movies make me cry easily? darn it. haha)

hmmm... i wonder what made me like this movie so much? the storyline is pretty simple, nothing extraordinary... is it p'nam's (the girl protagonist) one-sided feelings shown throughout the movie? or is it how p'nam was able to transform herself from being an awkward ugly duckling to a beautiful swan -- yet it still wasn't enough? or was it the regret of missing "the one that got away"?  or was is p'shone's awfully cute smile? hahaha!

great first thai movie! more movies woohoo!

Burlesque

last weekend i was able to have my "me-time-movie-time" again. usually i opt for action movies when i watch alone. this time however, i watched Burlesque (cher, christina aguilera). the movie was a flop actually. i think there were only around 10 of us in the cinema. but i never cared if something (whether it's music or movies or television shows or clothes) is sikat or "mainstream". sometimes i even prefer the uncommon ones. plus the pink and black (one of my fave color combinations) poster got my attention.

anyhoo, back to the movie. as for the storyline, it was ok, i guess. ordinary talented girl starts as underdog, a legend makes her a star, with a dash of rivalry and the required love story. i'd say it was typical and a bit predictable - which i expected anyway. so i wasn't that disappointed.

but if you're like me who appreciates theatrical performances, you will love this movie! they have lots of songs and production numbers. and i have to say, christina aguilera's voice and stage presence is awesome. and i love the stage design! and the lights! and the costumes! and the make-up! and cher's gay bestfriend :D there was just one song which was not bagay for a burlesque show but was included to emphasize the storyline. but that's forgivable. of course cher & kristin bell had good performances as well. all in all, i enjoyed the movie, but i would say that you'll appreciate Burlesque more if you saw it as a stage show instead of as a movie :)

this is it

i just finished watching Michael Jackson's This Is It video (i know i'm so delayed and i'm a loser.) he is such an amazing person. he's a great performer! but aside from that, it was really nice to see how he works before a concert. he's so hands-on and he knows his music very well. as one musician said, "you can't fool him". plus, he does not compose crap music. he creates songs from his heart, his passion. yes, that's what he is -- passionate. ang galing talaga :D oh, and how many times did he say "for the love" and "God bless you"? and "that's why we rehearse" :)

can i say that his instrumentalists are amazing?! well, what else do you expect in a MJ concert, right? and his guitarist is a girl! woohoo! and the lights. the props. the videos. the pyrotechnics. the dancers. the backup vocals. everything is amazing :D

i know we are faaaar from MJ-level, but somehow, seeing the video reminded me of my 4-year tenure in the DLSU Pops Orchestra (now called the Surreli Pops Orchestra). just before a major concert. the planning. the brainstorming. the stage and props design. the scripts. the practices and technical rehearsals. woooow! nakaka-miss!! and the people of course. paulit-ulit naming sinasabi dati na Pops is family. but you really wouldn't understand it unless you experience it yourself.

photo taken by Mark Carandang (thanks!)

i could not imaging my college years without it (well, na-imagine ko... feeling ko kung walang Pops, magiging hardcore computer nerd ako na walang social life. hahaha!)

hey hey! guess what i found!! those were the days when i was thin and my life's struggles involved projects and exams and thesis and i didn't have to wear slacks almost everyday and i could cut class just because i want to. sarap!

i'm sorry though, this are trimmed versions. i can't find the complete videos anymore :(

sunday randomness

i treated mom and danny and ronel and ate ditas to yoshinoya for lunch today. thank you danny & ronel for cleaning my vacuum and my industrial fan! thank you thank you! now my vacuum is ready for more bad-ass dust obliteration! bwahaha!

i spent the afternoon in megamall. i bought a ticket to the sherlock holmes movie. but i was about 2 hours early, so i went to powerbooks and got myself a new book to read :D ok, so it's not a political or philosophical or some deep sh*t book. i got a light romantic fiction - Love, Rosie by Cecelia Ahern. but at least i'm reading haha! the 3rd fiction i've purchased in half a month :)

then i went to the foodcourt and had a snack. i got taro naicha bubble tea and a ham & cheese on wheat wrap from plato wraps. both i haven't tried before. hmm... good discoveries, i should say!

then the sherlock holmes movie. it was... ok. not quite avatar-astig, but it wasn't bad either.

on my way home i passed by toy kingdom and they had this cute barbie display. of course i remembered my fellow evils and toy collectors ate ja & mik haha!

then i passed by 7/11 to get my coffee. they have a new flavor - banana cappuccino. weird, i know. hmm... weird talaga ang lasa. i still prefer my usual french vanilla. oks! time for some book reading!

evening breakfast

tonight i was able to watch a classic movie: breakfast at tiffany's

what can i say? the movie was simple. no flashy effects whatsoever.

but i loved it! there were some parts that i could really relate to. and i cried! hahaha!
1. holly golighty (audrey hepburn) loves glamour. but she can't afford it. haha!
2. holly loves new york. and she lives in an apartment alone (well.. with a cat with no name). which is a bit disorganized as well. hihihi!
3. there's this line near the end of the movie... paul varjak (george peppard) said "you call yourself a free spirit, a wild thing... and you're terrified someone will stick you in a cage. well baby, you're already in that cage, you built it yourself." aahh ang galing!

hmm.. that was a nice way to spend the evening :) oh yea, i SUPER DUPER love moon river. i have a little secret about this song. but i think i'll keep it to myself. for now :D

bestfriend

one of my friends recommended that i watch Bride Wars (anne hathaway & kate hudson). he told me that if you have a bff, you'd really appreciate the movie.

so i watched.

and i missed having a bestfriend. oh no, i'm not an anti-social loner. i have a lot of acquaintances and friends and a few really close ones. but i don't have that one person who really knows me. who i can rant and cry to when i'm upset. one who i could talk to for forever and we wouldn't run out of things to talk about.

hmm... i used to have one back in college (let's call the person X). or so i thought. maybe I thought X was my bestfriend, but it didn't mean that it was true the other way around too. X may be my closest friend, but that didn't necessarily mean I was X's closest friend as well. yes, X has been a very, very good friend to me for what, 4? 5 years? when we graduated, we continued to be great friends. but something happened (no details here. but it wasn't a fight or anything. if you hear the story, it would sound shallow, actually.) that made me realize that we weren't as close as i thought we were.

and when it hit me, it sucked. lesson learned - never assume. so i went through the process of self-brainwashing. i had to tell myself over and over that no, we weren't really bestfriends, even back then.

it was hard, but i'm ok now. i'm cool with this setup. X will always be a good friend, but not a bestfriend anymore. what's funny is, even after what happened, i NEVER felt any ill feelings. i was never angry. just lonely. but no feeling of angst or hatred or whatever. X has given me 5 years of incredible friendship which i'll be forever thankful for. that won't go away that easily.

i must admit, i miss having a bestfriend. but now, i'm happy with my small circle of close friends. and when the time comes that there is one person who can become my bff, i'll make sure we're on the same page first. :) for now, i guess this blog will have to bear with the musings of this little lady. :)
