Burlesque

last weekend i was able to have my "me-time-movie-time" again. usually i opt for action movies when i watch alone. this time however, i watched Burlesque (cher, christina aguilera). the movie was a flop actually. i think there were only around 10 of us in the cinema. but i never cared if something (whether it's music or movies or television shows or clothes) is sikat or "mainstream". sometimes i even prefer the uncommon ones. plus the pink and black (one of my fave color combinations) poster got my attention.

anyhoo, back to the movie. as for the storyline, it was ok, i guess. ordinary talented girl starts as underdog, a legend makes her a star, with a dash of rivalry and the required love story. i'd say it was typical and a bit predictable - which i expected anyway. so i wasn't that disappointed.

but if you're like me who appreciates theatrical performances, you will love this movie! they have lots of songs and production numbers. and i have to say, christina aguilera's voice and stage presence is awesome. and i love the stage design! and the lights! and the costumes! and the make-up! and cher's gay bestfriend :D there was just one song which was not bagay for a burlesque show but was included to emphasize the storyline. but that's forgivable. of course cher & kristin bell had good performances as well. all in all, i enjoyed the movie, but i would say that you'll appreciate Burlesque more if you saw it as a stage show instead of as a movie :)

giving in to my inner little girl

work. bills. loans. mortgage. budget. stress.

all these things surround the normal working-class adult. and these grown-up stuff can be stifling (a bit exaggerated. but you get what i mean).

so what does this 20-something pondering little lady do? i give in to my inner little girl, while still catering to my grown-up needs. you know, just to get back that giddy feeling.

what did i love when i was a kid? barbie, definitely. my neighbor and i used to play barbie all day. complete with our little barbie grocery and department store (yes, we have a department store, with lots of shoes and clothes). but instead of buying a barbie doll (i'm not really a collector,so pass), i got myself a more functional alternative - a Barbie Pink Power Hand Sanitizer! sooo cute :) and it has a powdery scent to it. i got it in the kids' accessories section :D and yeah, this is still a couple of months from now, but my mom said that she would sponsor the Red Ribbon Barbie cake on my birthday! YAHOOO!

hmm what else? i went to Robinson's Galleria's deparment store to buy my usual toiletries. when i saw a Gelato Vanilla Lip Balm! and the container looked like a miniature pint of gelato! i couldn't resist getting it! (buti nalang 100+ pesos lang. kung hindi, pag-iisipan ko pa hahahah!) uh-huh, it does taste like sweet vanilla :) also available in cherry.

so yeah, i have a job and i have bills to pay. but i guess there's still a little girl in me :)

my first "everyday eyeshadow palette"

last Christmas, my aunt asked me what gift i wanted to get. since i wanted to use eyeshadows more this year, i told my aunt that i wanted a neutral-colored eyeshadow palette.

so my aunt got me a limited edition L'Oreal Open Eyes Chrome Intensity in Magic Amber.

the palette consists of 4 colors - Magic Amber, Addictive Yellow, Open Deep Brown, and Open Highlighter. it is on the beige/brown/neutral side of the color wheel. it has a hint of shimmer, but not the really glittery kind. at the back of the palette, it shows a picture on how you should apply it, which is great for eyeshadow beginners like me. it also comes with a little mirror. i don't use the applicator that comes with it though. i prefer using an eyeshadow brush than the sponge-y applicator.

i alternate using my kohl eyeliner + bloom stardust shimmer and this eyeshadow palette.

what eyeshadow do you use?

let's all get together!

2011 seems to be a year of reunions for me.

first, our clan had our 4th Kimpo International Reunion which happens every 3 years. Our family consists of 6 generations, starting with my great great grandparents. relatives from across the country and over the world went to Kalibo, Aklan, just in time for the Ati-Atihan festival.

so here's to give you an idea how big our reunion is:

the 1st generation is lolo juan and lola ganday, who had 7 children (2nd generation). these 7 children make-up the current "7 families" of the Kimpo clan and each family has their respective family color. these 7 children had so and so number of children (3rd generation, which includes my grandparents), and these children and so and so number of children (4th generation), and these children had so and so number of children (5th generation - myself included), and some 5th generation-ers already have their own children (6th generation). whew!

can't wait for the next reunion!

this photo has one generation only haha!

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE. one of my bestfriends from DLSU Pops Orchestra has been diagnosed with a tough sickness. so my friends and i are doing all we can to help. this led to being in contact with old friends from Pops, friends that i haven't talked to in years! Pops peeps have been my good friends during my college years. they kept me sane. i'm with them everyday. i even stayed longer in the bandroom than in gox (our Computer Science building) that's why i don't know a lot of my comsci batchmates haha! but once everyone started working, i only got to keep in touch with a few of them.

speaking of my friend, please pray for his fast recovery. his sickness is tough, but he is tougher. FIGHT!

hope i'll be able to keep in touch with more family & friends & relatives :)

2011, here I come!

at the start of the year, we usually hear about Resolutions. things that you promise to start doing (or stop doing) for the year.

honestly, i don't feel like giving specific things to do. it would be really hard to remember those come june, right? so i'd rather have general things/goals to focus on, then make mini-plans to make them happen one day at a time.

so for 2011, i will be focusing on the following:
- healthy living (let's start the year with a bet! *wink*)

- enrich my love for make-up (bading!)

- try to travel more (anybody who wants to go to Guam?)

- nurture personal relationships (oha!)

- continue journey towards financial independence
(change bryan to Little Lady hehe)

hmmm... i think those are doable enough.
cheers everyone! may 2011 be a wonderful year for all of us!

beauty tag!

I found this game/questionnaire on the net. I think it's pretty fun to do!

SKINCARE

How many times do you wash your face daily?
- Twice.

What skin type do you have?
- Normal/Combination - Sensitive

What is your current cleanser?
- Physiogel Cleanser in the morning, Olay Total Effects Cleanser at night.

Do you exfoliate?
- Yep.

What brand do you use?
- Olay Clarify and Cleanse Daily Scrub

What moisturizer do you use?
- Physiogel AI Cream in the morning, Physiogel Cream before going to bed. (as per recommendation of my dermatologist since I have uber sensitive skin)

Do you have freckles?
- None.

Do you use eye cream?
- Nope, although I think I should start using one. What brand would you suggest?

Do you or did you have acne prone skin?
- Not really acne prone. Just a zit once in a while.

Did you ever have to use Pro-activ?
- Nope.

MAKE-UP

What foundation do you use?
- I use Revlon Beyond Natural Skin Matching Make-up (not really a foundation, more of a tinted moisturizer) and Revlon ColorStay Mineral Mousse alternately. I'd prefer to use ColorStay Mineral Mousse for medium coverage everyday, but I use Beyond Natural Skin Matching Make-up for light/sheer coverage to let my skin breathe.

How about concealer?
- No concealer right now. But I prefer to use pencil concealers.

Do you know your undertone color?
- Cool undertone, I think.

What do you think of fake eyelashes?
- I think they're really pretty! They really enhance your eyes. Although they can be a hassle to put on and take off. I'd use them on very special occasions. Other than that, I'm fine with my lashes.

Did you know that you are supposed to change your mascara every 3 months?
- Yep. I don't use mascara though :)

What brand of mascara do you use?
- None

Sephora or MAC?
- No Sephora here :( But their products look nice!

Do you have a MAC Pro-card?
- Nope

What makeup tools do you use in make up application?
- I use a lot of liquid/cream stuff so I don't use a lot of tools. Just my fingers mostly. But I do use an ELF brush for my powder bronzer and a damp sponge for my wet & dry powder foundation. I'll be needing an eyeshadow brush soon when I get my eyeshadow palette!

Do you use make-up base/primer for the eyes?
- Nope.

For the face?
- Just moisturizer and foundation for the whole face. I actually considered using BB creams, but I'm currently good with my moisturizer-fonda combo.

What is your favorite eyeshadow (color or shade)?
- Neutral Colors. I'm gonna get an eyeshadow palette this Christmas yey!

Do you use pencil or liquid eyeliner?
- Before I used IN2IT Liquid Eyeliner with felt-tip applicator which was amazing! Now I use Revlon Luxurious Color Kohl Eyeliner pencil (batang Revlon lang haha). I super love it! It comes with it's own smudger so I could go with strong, fine lines or a soft, smudged finish.

How often do you poke your eyes with an eyeliner?
- Rarely. I'm usually careful when putting on eyeliner.

What do you think of pigment eyeshadows?
- Haven't tried them yet. But starting 2011, I'm gonna use eyeshadows more.

Do you use mineral makeup?
- Just mineral powder foundation.

What is your favorite lipstick?
- I'm really not into lipsticks. I only use tinted balms and lipgloss.

How about lipgloss?
- No specific brand really. Now I use Nivea Natural Volume. I used Lancome Juicy Tubes before too. I'd like to try Burt's Bees or Duwop Lip Venom.

What is your favorite blush to use?
- I've been using The Body Shop Lip and Cheek Stain since last year. I love how it looks pretty natural. But I think NARS and SmashBox have awesome cream blushes too. I'm interested in trying Covergirl and Olay Simply Ageless Cream blush too. No powder blush for me.

Do you buy your makeup on ebay?
- Nope. It takes the fun out of shopping haha!

Do you like drugstore makeup?
- Hiyep :)

Do you go to CCOs (Cosmetic Company Outlets)?
- Nope. I want to go to one!

Did you ever consider taking make-up classes?
- Oh yeah!

Are you clumsy in putting on makeup?
- I don't think so. Everyday makeup is a breeze. Although for special occasions, I have to practice the night before haha! Especially for eye makeup. I'm such a noob when it comes to eyeshadows.

Name a makeup crime that you hate?
- foundation that is too light for your skintone

Do you like colorful shades of makeup (lipstick, eyeshadow) or neutral ones?
- Neutral makeup. For colorful shades, I take it out on my nail polish instead :) (wooh Sally Hansen!)

Which celebrity(ties) always has great make up?
- Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry

If you had to leave the house using just ONE make up item, what would you use?
- Mineral Mousse

Could you ever leave the house without any makeup on?
- I'll have to have at least some powder on.

Do you think you look good even without any makeup on?
- If I don't have any allergic reactions on my face, I'd say I can do without makeup.

In your opinion, what is the BEST makeup line?
- Hmmm... I've been using a lot of Revlon, so I'll stick with that for now. But once I get rich imma gonna try SmashBox and NARS and MAC and Urban Decay! haha!

A quick run-down of your everyday makeup routine:
- start with clean skin. moisturizer (Physiogel AI Cream). foundation (either Revlon Mineral Mousse or Beyond Natural Makeup). lip balm (Maybelline Lip Balm in Strawberry). blush (The Body Shop Lip and Cheek Stain). dust powder all over face (either Revlon ColorStay Mineral Foundation or Natural Rice Dual Wet&Dry Foundation). dust a little bronzer (ELF Natural Radiance Blusher in Bronzed). eyeliner (Revlon Luxurious Color Kohl Eyeliner in Black Truffle). finish with lip gloss (Nivea Natural Volume). kulang pa yan ng concealer and eyeshadow and mascara ha! haha!

What do you think of Makeup?
- It's my instant stress-reliever. If I need a quick energy boost, I just swipe on some lipgloss. Makeup is an enhancement, not a necessity. Also, my friends know that I like a lot of guy stuff (rock music, WWE, muay thai, etc.) So me loving make-up confirms that hell yeah, I'm still a girlie-girl. hahah!

Alright, your turn! Tag!
Just a few hours before Christmas. HAVE A BEAUTILICIOUS CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

Monday, November 22, 2010

oh no! it's christmas! =S

i always get excited when christmas is around the corner. i love the lights, the decorations, the christmas shopping (especially christmas shopping!), the cold wind, and hot coffee (with a splash of peppermint please). i love santa claus! i love christmas songs! i love the christmas spirit!

however, there's one thing i don't look forward to during christmas -- getting interviewed by relatives. by aunties and lolas, specifically. for the past christmases, there have always been questions about my "status".

"o ano, wala ka pa bang ipapakilala?", they ask.
why can't they ask "o, kumusta na ka na ba? kumusta ang trabaho? ok ka ba dun sa condo?" instead?

at one point, i told them that i'm ok with not being married ever. and i think that made them go to panic mode. hahaha!

"nako hija, wag mong sasabihin yan!!"
"don't nip it in the bud! malay mo baka may cute friend, diba?"
sigh.

don't get me wrong. i didn't say i don't want to get married. of course i do, someday. maybe. i'm just saying that i'm ok not being married either. hay naku. the pressure. mygaaahd. if they want cute little kids, i have other cousins who would do that hahaha! i don't get it why most people see not being married as something bad. even scary.

but anyway, that's about it. everything else about christmas, i absolutely LOVE!
eto na, i can feel the Christmas spirit already!
pass the cheer everyone! :D

oh yea, this is my PC wallpaper. o diba?! :D
