favorite-est band

when it comes to music, i really appreciate almost all kinds of genre. i can listen to rock, alternative, hiphop, pop, jazz, ballads, etc. i have a lot of favorite artists too. i listen to 30 seconds to mars, alicia keys, breaking benjamin, korn, my chemical romance, james morrison, jennifer lopez, justin timberlake, linkin park, steve tyrell, michael buble, just to name a few. locally i like pinoy bands (bamboo! wolfgang!)

but there's one band that has really emotionally moved me with their songs - the red jumpsuit apparatus. their lyrics are just always spot on. one of their songs already brought me to tears. another one almost did (again). plus of course, i love how ronnie winter sings the songs (ok, biased remark. i'm on fangirl mode, so please let me indulge haha!)

i can still remember when they performed in glorietta. talagang effort ako to get tickets! sobrang saya nung performance na yun! and during the cd-signing, that was the only time i got starstruck EVER. i literally could not speak when ronnie was in front of me. all i did was smile hahaha! darn it. but he shook my hand!! woooohoooo!!

can't wait for their new album! c'mon august 30!

rollercoaster month

geez, this has been a crazy month. a lot of things are happening at lightning speed! but i like it :D it makes me feel more alive. let's break it down a bit more. this month, i've felt...

very very thankful... that my dear friend BJ is now in remission. the Lord is truly great. to family and friends, thank you for all your prayers and help.

ecstatic... that all the hours clocked in at the gym and efforts of controlling portions are finally starting to pay off. JUSKUPO!

revitalized... at the office (doesn't that sound weird? haha).

delighted... that my article was printed in our company publication. thank you for giving me the opportunity to write.

stressed and frustrated... which is surprisingly not work-related. (hay Lord, i am asking for your help again. i don't know how to do this.)

chillax... while listening to 106.7 Dream FM at work.

relieved... at nakaraos din sa BC tuitions. woohoo!

excited... for the start of mentorship :)

glad... that i met new friends.

cheery & child-like... after watching 2 good movies - Crazy Little Thing Called Love and Rio.

calm... before going to bed, after spritzing lavender linen spray on my bed & pillows.

looking forward... to a SUNNY SUMMER! i love the heat and the sun and the wind! and to a nice Holy Week with family and relatives.

HAVE A SUNNY AND WONDERFUL SUMMER EVERYONE!

rock and roll

John Lennon: "Why do you know so much? I mean, you don't seem like the rock and roll kind of guy."
Paul McCartney: "You mean I don't go around smashing things up? Acting like a dick?"
John Lennon: "Yeah."
Paul McCartney: "It's the music. That's it. It's just music. Simple."

you take the breath right out of me...

... You left a hole where my heart should be.
You got to fight just to make it through,
'cause I will be the death of you.

this is it

i just finished watching Michael Jackson's This Is It video (i know i'm so delayed and i'm a loser.) he is such an amazing person. he's a great performer! but aside from that, it was really nice to see how he works before a concert. he's so hands-on and he knows his music very well. as one musician said, "you can't fool him". plus, he does not compose crap music. he creates songs from his heart, his passion. yes, that's what he is -- passionate. ang galing talaga :D oh, and how many times did he say "for the love" and "God bless you"? and "that's why we rehearse" :)

can i say that his instrumentalists are amazing?! well, what else do you expect in a MJ concert, right? and his guitarist is a girl! woohoo! and the lights. the props. the videos. the pyrotechnics. the dancers. the backup vocals. everything is amazing :D

i know we are faaaar from MJ-level, but somehow, seeing the video reminded me of my 4-year tenure in the DLSU Pops Orchestra (now called the Surreli Pops Orchestra). just before a major concert. the planning. the brainstorming. the stage and props design. the scripts. the practices and technical rehearsals. woooow! nakaka-miss!! and the people of course. paulit-ulit naming sinasabi dati na Pops is family. but you really wouldn't understand it unless you experience it yourself.

photo taken by Mark Carandang (thanks!)

i could not imaging my college years without it (well, na-imagine ko... feeling ko kung walang Pops, magiging hardcore computer nerd ako na walang social life. hahaha!)

hey hey! guess what i found!! those were the days when i was thin and my life's struggles involved projects and exams and thesis and i didn't have to wear slacks almost everyday and i could cut class just because i want to. sarap!

i'm sorry though, this are trimmed versions. i can't find the complete videos anymore :(

while at work today, i got bored with my current playlist, so i decided to play all the songs in my iPod so i could listen to my old songs.

i realized i miss the 90's to early 2000's kick-ass songs by pinoy bands (not just alternative ones). wala na bang mga bagong release na ganito? o hindi nalang ako nakakanood ng MTV?

i'll be waiting for you.. so if you come here.. you'll find me.

i was listening to my iPod when this track came up. it was something that i haven't heard in a long time. it's an acoustic guitar version of final fantasy 8's Eyes On Me. then i remembered instantly why i fell in love with PlayStation One way back in highschool.

squall, rinoa, zell, quistis, irvine, selphie, seifer, ultimecia -- oooh it's all coming back to me!

squall & zell, i ABSOLUTELY love them! squall being all aloof and cold and stuff, but you know that he's really kind. and he even smiles in the end. SWOON. and the dancing scene where he first met rinoa. SWOON. and the ragnarok scene, of course. SWOON. i used to think i like fictional guys with scars. haha! look at squall and kenshin himura. you've got to love them, right?

and zell. OMG. so kulit yet so strong. i feel like if i'm with zell, i'd be laughing my ass off all day!

laguna. oooh i ought to bonk him in the head. torpe! but i still like him though :)

irvine's ok. a bit too maangas for me though. (hmm... now that i look at his picture again, he sort of looks like shawn michaels. hahaha!)

of course i like rinoa and quistis and selphie too. i always like women who can fight and kick enemy butt.

oooh, i love it too when i get a new GF (guardian force). super achievement! pinaghihirapan ko yun :D shiva is my #1 fave because she's pretty. and i really like ice powers (like shiva's, subzero's and what's his name from flame of recca? was it mikagami?)  and i like diablo too, and doomtrain!

and the card games. hay nakakamiss! i want to play the game again!

kick-ass femininity

i have said before that i admire sophie kinsella for pursuing her "alternative career" -- that is being a chick-lit writer.

there's another woman who i admire - and slightly envy too. she is sharon del adel, vocalist of the rock band Within Temptation. ok, so you think "yeah sure, another rocker chick". but it's not just her powerful voice that caught my attention. aside from their band's kick-ass music (which i discovered through body combat wahoo!), her fashion sense is amazing.

sharon actually wears gowns while rocking out onstage! as in long gowns and cocktail dresses and combat boots. i love it!

with the rest of the band

it makes sense though, because before being a full time musician, she first worked in the fashion industry.

when you look at her onstage, she can project toughness and femininity at the same time. plus she's from both the fashion and music industries. ok, now i'm really jealous :))

Tiffyiffyiffy

woot new fave artist!

tiffany eugenio a.k.a. tiffyiffyiffy sings some of the best covers i've heard. she creates her own piano/guitar versions of hiphop/dance-y songs. and voice is awesome too. magaling magaling!

my current faves so far are her renditions of Sweet Dreams (Beyonce), 4 Minutes (Madonna & Justin Timberlake) and Suffocate (J. Holiday).

i truly hope she makes it big. see her other vids here! :D
